Shelly has announced a series of new hardware and firmware developments at IFA 2026 in Berlin, expanding its connected home and building ecosystem across lighting control, heating and Matter interoperability.
New no-neutral lighting controllers, expanded Matter capabilities for Shelly Wall Display and an updated smart radiator valve extend Shelly’s offering across retrofit, heating and connected building projects.
The launches include the Shelly 1L Gen4 and 2L Gen4 for no-neutral lighting installations, the Shelly i4 Gen4, an updated Shelly BLU TRV and a major Matter update for compatible models in the Shelly Wall Display range. Together, the announcements build on Shelly’s focus on open standards, local control and flexible integration across residential and commercial projects.
Gen4 devices widen the options for retrofit installations
Coming soon, the Shelly 1L Gen4 and Shelly 2L Gen4 provide one- and two-channel smart lighting control respectively without requiring a neutral wire at the switch. This is designed to make it easier to introduce smart lighting and automation into existing properties where the wiring configuration can limit the choice of connected controls.
Both products are part of Shelly’s fourth-generation platform, which supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Matter. This allows installers and system designers to select or combine connectivity technologies according to the requirements of the property, its existing infrastructure and the wider smart home system.
Also joining the range is the Shelly i4 Gen4, a four-input digital controller designed to trigger scenes, webhooks and scripts, as well as control other Shelly devices. Rather than relying on a single connectivity technology across every installation, Shelly’s Gen4 approach allows different protocols to be selected and combined according to the needs of the project.
Wall Display update adds two-way Matter interoperability
Shelly is also extending its Wall Display range through a free Matter update delivered with firmware version 2.8.0. Compatible Wall Displays will be able to operate simultaneously as both a Matter controller and a Matter device, enabling the panel to control supported Matter products from other manufacturers while making its own compatible functions available within other Matter ecosystems.
As a Matter controller, the Wall Display can commission and operate compatible lights, plugs, thermostats, fans, sensors, covers, blinds and shades without requiring a separate Matter hub or bridge. Third-party products will appear as tiles alongside Shelly devices on the same home screen, providing a common interface for controlling products from different manufacturers. They can also be incorporated into Shelly’s local scenes, automations and scripts, with processing taking place locally on the panel.
When operating as a Matter device, compatible Wall Display functions such as relays, dimming and thermostat control can be added to platforms including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant. The panel can belong to multiple Matter ecosystems simultaneously, allowing Shelly functionality to become part of the system already being used within a property without requiring the rest of the installation to move to a different platform.
“A wall panel should be the place the home comes together, not one more device waiting for a hub to tell it what to do,” said Shelly CEO Dimitar Dimitrov. “Making the Wall Display a Matter controller and a Matter device at the same time means it can bring every brand in the house onto one screen, and still hand its own relays, dimmer and thermostat to whatever ecosystem the household already lives in. You stop choosing sides.”
Full Matter controller and device functionality will be available on the Wall Display X1i, X2i, XL, U1, S1, S2 and XT. First-generation Shelly Wall Display and Wall Display X2 models will also be able to control Matter devices shared from a newer compatible panel, extending some of the new functionality to earlier hardware. Thread-based Matter devices will continue to require a Thread Border Router.
Updated Shelly BLU TRV extends the connected heating range
Connected heating is another focus of Shelly’s IFA announcements, with an updated version of the Shelly BLU TRV smart radiator valve. Hardware improvements include a new motor designed to provide quieter valve movement and battery life of up to two years. A firmware update will also introduce a new gateway function, removing the need for a separate dedicated gateway in compatible Shelly Cloud installations. Instead, a compatible Shelly Wi-Fi device from the Plus generation onwards will be able to act as the gateway. The existing Shelly Gateway Gen3 will remain available for installations requiring cloud or local control.
With support for both Bluetooth and Zigbee, the BLU TRV provides greater flexibility when introducing room-by-room temperature control. The dual-protocol approach also reflects a wider development across Shelly’s BLU range, giving installers and users more choice over the wireless technology used within a project.
Two additional sensors are also due to join the range. The Shelly BLU Door Window Mini ZB is designed for narrow frames and other restricted installation spaces, while the IP55-rated Shelly BLU Door Window Outdoor ZB is intended for applications including gates, sheds and other outbuildings.
An open approach to connected homes and buildings
The IFA announcements extend the Shelly ecosystem across a wider range of residential and commercial applications, from a relay installed behind an existing light switch to connected heating, central control interfaces and local automation.
For retrofit projects, the Shelly 1L Gen4 and 2L Gen4 are intended to make connected lighting possible in more existing wiring configurations. The Wall Display update provides a way to bring supported products from different Matter manufacturers onto the same interface, while also making Shelly controls available through other Matter platforms. By combining Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Matter with local automation and third-party integrations, Shelly is continuing to develop a flexible technology ecosystem for home automation, energy management and connected building control.
