Question: Should metal containment used for ELV cabling only i.e. (for fire alarm cabling) be earthed?

Answer: This depends whether or not the containment you refer to is an extraneous conductive part (i.e. likely to introduce a potential).

If in doubt, the best practice would be to earth it.
