Question: I’m knocking down an attached garage and my meter and consumer unit will be exposed in a wooden box. I was going to fit a steel box over this, as the whole will become part of a new driveway.
Will I need to fit anti-condensation heaters to keep it dry?
Answer: The enclosure used will depend on the possible access of water and solid objects.
Enclosures having an IP55 rating tend to be used if possible ingress of water is from all directions.
If equipment is left for periods of time switched off, or the temperature inside the enclosure could drop lower than the ambient temperature, anti-condensation heaters are recommended.
