Q & A of the Day – What’s the minimum earth loop impedance for a domestic installation?
Question: I carried out an earth loop impedance test between phase and earth mains using an earth loop impedance tester made by Megger. The value I got was three ohms. My question is: what is the minimum earth loop impedance for a domestic installation with a mains cable size of 16mm2.

Answer: The value should be checked against the tables in BS 7671 and the protective device being used.
