Question: Last year at Lux Live 2012, the Expert Panel gave a great presentation on Green Deal and Lighting – 12 months on are we any closer to seeing the Green Deal make energy saving lighting more accessible for households and businesses than it was?
Answer: When we spoke on this topic last year, domestic lighting was not included as a measure within the Green Deal. I’m pleased to say that after several months of negotiations we have now succeeded in getting dedicated low energy luminaires included for domestic properties. There is still work to be done on controls and even retrofit lamps but it’s a step in the right direction.
On the wider subject on how the Green Deal is performing, there has been much press about it and there is no doubt that if this is the Government’s flagship policy on energy efficiency in UK properties, it needs a bigger push and a rethink in terms of both the finance costs and the general bureaucracy if it is to reach any of the targets it has been set.
