Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, about the purpose of the additional loop L-N test, is answered by Kew Technik (Socket & See):

Question: What is the purpose of the additional loop L-N (as opposed to the standard loop L-PE) test you get on some test equipment? (Alphatek Easitest springs to mind).
Answer: Typically this will be to establish the Prospective Fault Current (PFC) between conductors in the case of a short circuit. Typically, this will be higher for L-N than for L-PE. Most modern loop testers will allow you to make this measurement separately.
