Q & A of the Day – Does this office require RCD protection?
Question: In an office environment that is staffed by clerical operatives, with no knowledge of electricity, would there be a requirement to provide RCD protection as per the Regulations?

Answer: Generally, in an office, there will be a duty manager or the like who would probably be classed as being a skilled person, i.e. will know of the dangers of electricity. If this is the case, then the office is under the control of a skilled person and the sockets would not be for general use by ordinary persons - therefore, there may be no requirement for socket-outlets to be protected by an RCD.
