Q & A of the Day – Do lighting circuits need RCD protection when re-wiring a fuseboard?
Question: We are to replace a fuseboard in a property that was re-wired in the 1980s. Can we still use a split-load fuseboard? If so, would the lighting circuits have to be RCD protected?

Answer: Only if the fuseboard needs replacing because of damage (such as by overheating etc), or at the owner's request. In such cases, yes, then lighting circuits would need to be on RCD protection.
