This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.
Question: How do you set the overload relay for a Direct Online (DOL) starter for an induction motor?
Is there a factor/term that one can multiply the full load current by, in order to set it (slightly above) the full load current?
Answer: The overload should be set to the motor rating plate full load current. There is no factor applied to the set point for DOL starting. Any factoring to allow for starting currents or overload situations during running is allowed for within the overload
relay itself.
