Alan Shoesmith asks whether he should go deeper with an earth rod, or whether it is the soil resistivity that is the problem. His question has been answered by the NICEIC (Theme – Fire, Safety & Security):
Question: With a TT supply from overhead that I'm involved with, the Ze is 28 ohms from the consumer unit to the earth rod (which has been disconnected). Is it the soil that's the problem, or should I go deeper?
Answer: This is the soil resistivity - a reading of 28 ohms is perfectly acceptable and it complies with the requirements of BS7671.
If the reading was above 200 ohms, then it would be classed as unstable.
