NAPIT (The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) has added two new courses to its comprehensive training schedule. The latest one-day courses on offer are available at a choice of locations across the UK:

New NAPIT training courses
One of the NAPIT courses will serve as a useful reminder for trades people about how to fill in electrical certificates correctly and the other offers help to ensure the correct use of test instruments. The Completing Certificates and Reports and Using Test Instruments for Fixed Installations courses will run monthly throughout 2007, or more frequently if there is demand.

NAPIT's training director Dennis Denholm explained: "Many trades people could benefit from the certificates course as a reminder of how to fill in documentation and to gain a better understanding of the whole process. The electrical certificates have to be filled in fully because they are a binding legal document which are left with the householder."

Copies of the certificate are retained by the tradespeople who can notify NAPIT under Part P of the Building Regulations. NAPIT then informs the relevant local authority.

"If these certificates are filled in incorrectly there could be major implications for the tradespeople, as these are certificates of safety. This documentation is very important to the industry under the regulations of BS7671.

Mr Denholm said: "The test instruments course will serve as a comprehensive and useful reminder on the use of instruments. It will allow operatives to familiarise themselves with lots of different manufacturers' instruments."

Prices:

The courses cost £165 each + VAT for NAPIT members, £205 + VAT for non NAPIT members. NAPIT currently has around 4,000 members, the majority of whom work in the electrical sector.

The latest in the national network of NAPIT approved training centres recently opened in Manchester. The site, featuring training and assessment rooms and a workshop, is based at Carrington Business Park. Around 30 people can be trained on site at one time and a range of different courses will be offered, including domestic Part P based training. The centre's director Kevin Meehan said: "We will be able to offer domestic and industry training and are very pleased to be linked with NAPIT."

The first course ran at the centre on January 22.
