A new direction in indirect amenity lighting

A new type of outdoor indirect lighting luminaire, which provides an increased downward light output ratio (DLOR) whilst reducing light pollution, has been developed by Thorn:

A new direction in indirect amenity lighting

This new outdoor indirect lighting luminaire range, known as Aviso, incorporates innovative reflector technology to deliver strong aesthetic values and high performance.

High efficiency and ultra-low light pollution:

Indirect fittings project light upwards onto a reflective plate, which in turn directs the light back down again. Thorn's Aviso is said to be a considerable technical advance due to its innovative top plate with Mosaique reflector (patent, pending). Each reflector comprises of 24 tiles, configured together in a choice of arrangements to throw more light towards the longitudinal or transverse direction. Each tile comprises of nine cells and has three layers: a coat of protection paint, a metallised coat and a transparent PMMA skin to protect it. The result is 97% containment of light on the top plate giving better efficiency and ultra-low light pollution, whilst maintaining outstanding visual comfort. The DLOR is around 50% and a typical scheme has a threshold increment (TI) lower than 4%.

The 'rectangular light' projector uses a 70W or 150W ceramic metal halide lamp and connects to the top plate by the luminaire body /arm. There is a choice of two, tiltable arm shapes with a further selection of dedicated columns (3.2m and 5.2m high).
