The Quickwire junction box has been drawing the crowds at trade shows over the past 12 months. But, with several quick-fit junction boxes already available in the market, what is so special about this solution?
Marketed as “a revolutionary new prewired and maintenance free junction box” the Quickwire sets out to offer speed, simplicity and reliability to installers. But why do we need another type of junction box?
Traditional junction boxes are seldom used nowadays. They’re fiddly, cumbersome and even for a seasoned electrician, they can take absolutely ages to wire up. Most of us would agree that times have moved on. The market now offers several modern alternatives. Some now have clever features, like push fit terminals, or screwless clamps etc. These new features have gone a long way towards streamlining the good old junction box. But could it really get much better? Is there really any room left for improvement?

Quick and easy installation
Quickwire appeared on the scene mid-2017, and in the short time they’ve been around they’ve caused quite a stir. This is because installers are finding that these junction boxes are substantially quicker than even the very best of the new wave of junction boxes currently on the market.
The junction box is remarkably simple. There are no screws, covers, clips or clamps. All you have to do is strip your cable before pushing it into the cable entry points. As you push the cable, the cores are guided into their correct terminals, before a clever (patented) shuttle design clamps down on the cable, completing the connection. At trade shows, the Quickwire team run a time challenge to show off just how fast the product is. The best time recorded is less than five seconds. There are other benefits too:

- Fits through 32mm hole. (It’s probably the smallest junction box out there and can fit through a downlighter hole with ease!)
- Reusable. (If necessary the cable can be removed, and the junction box reused)

We all know time is money, and when making multiple connections on a job, the time savings gained from Quickwire can really add up. Who wants to spend their time up a ladder or crawling round in a loft space anyway?
