With the continuing evolution of the home entertainment market, greater numbers and varieties of wiring accessories are required in the home. Some electrical accessories manufacturers have recently brought onto the market outlets that combine power, data and RF, to overcome that perennial cause of domestic arguments – the ‘spaghetti’ associated with the cabling needed to interconnect the tv, dvd, video, tuner, satellite receiver and hi fi.
Feeds are needed from perhaps satellite dish quad lnbs, maybe a couple of aerials, a telephone or broadband point, not to mention power and maybe distribution to other parts of the house. Most of the standard products available assume that the average house needs tv/fm/data/sat and power, but of course every system is different, and it becomes expensive and time consuming to order a custom made product for anything slightly out of the ordinary.
Crabtree however, mindful of this problem, have just launched their simple yet decorative solution. Called a Multimedia Plate, it seems at first glance similar to other offerings, but its major benefit provides the contractor and his customer with a much more elegant solution. Yes, there’s power and data, and before anything more is said, the standard back box for the Multimedia Plate has two segregated compartments to prevent interference between mains and the extra low voltages of the media components. But the real benefit of the Multimedia Plate is that the data and media side of the outlet has two euro-slots to accommodate up to six euro-modules. This simple idea allows contractors to perfectly match the media system requirements of the customer by ‘customising’ the outlet on site. 12 different communication or data/coax modules are currently available to provide input and output facilities as required, with no compromise.
