CEF Renewed Sponsorship Powered Dodd1e'5 Gr4nd S7am Team’s 700-Mile Cycling Challenge for MND Research

Electrical Wholesaler CEF renewed its support for Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am Team as they take part in the ‘Grand Tour of Scotland’ challenge in aid of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. The event saw the Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am team cycle from Stranraer to Edinburgh to raise money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The team traveled across Scotland, cycling approximately 700 miles to their end destination in Edinburgh, passing through several locations along their route, including Greenock, Helensburgh, the Trossachs, Braemar, the Glenhee Ski Resort and Royal Deeside.

For the third year running, CEF supported the challenge started by Rob Wainwright OBE, in honour of Doddie Weir who sadly lost his battle to MND in 2022. The annual cycle challenge has gained popularity over the years, with over 200 riders participating in last year’s challenge. Notable figures including ex rugby players Paul Volley and Huw Davies were also involved. In 2024, CEF’s sponsorship helped ‘Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am’ team surpass their goal during their “All Roads Lead to Rome” Challenge, raising over £200,000 in aid of MND research.

The annual event not only raises funds but also aims to increase awareness about MND. This year, a dedicated Team Pod traveled alongside the cyclists, visiting schools and communities to educate and inspire others about the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation mission and the ongoing challenges faced by those impacted by MND.

Steve Pope, Director of Power Tools at CEF, said:"CEF is proud to support the Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am Team for another year running, demonstrating our commitment to fostering community support and contributing to meaningful causes. The fight against MND is personal to me, having lost a school friend and rugby teammate to the disease. His words—'  ‘I would like to think that if someone gets MND in 10 years' time, there may be a cure for them.  We need to raise funds for the necessary research and to also make that research a major priority for those who control the purse strings’’. —still resonate today. It’s great to know our efforts are making a difference, raising awareness, and contributing to the lives of those impacted by MND. At CEF we’re wishing all the riders the best of luck in this inspiring challenge for a brilliant cause!”
