Standard of BS EN 60947-2:2003 from British Standards

BS EN 60947-2:2003 is the newly revised standard that applies to circuit-breakers where the main contacts are intended to be connected to circuits, and where rated voltage does not exceed 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC. It also contains requirements for integrally fused circuit-breakers.
The standard relates to low-voltage circuit-breakers for use in industrial and similar installations.
New edition contains:
Modular residual current devices and associated requirements and tests
Revised dielectric properties and EMC tests
EMC requirements applicable to circuit breaker auxiliaries
New definition - ?resetting time?
New three-phase only marking symbol for breakers intended to be used with a three-phase supply
The standard gives comprehensive information and guidelines on the following:
The characteristics of circuit-breakers
The conditions with which circuit-breakers shall comply with reference to operation and behaviour in normal service; operation and behaviour in case of overload and operation and behaviour in case of short-circuit, including co-ordination in service (discrimination and back-up protection); and dielectric propeties
Tests intended for confirming that these conditions have been met and the methods to be adopted for these tests
Information to be marked on or given with the apparatus
BS EN 60947-2:2003 supersedes BS EN 60947-2:1996 whichwill be withdrawn on 1 May 2006.
