Our expert answers a question from the Voltimum community with regards to surge protection.
Question:
I’ve been told by a manufacturer that I have to use the same SPD technology within a building – what does this mean?
Answer:
When a Surge Protection system is at design stage, the specification would outline a manufacturer of the equipment to be used within the design. Using the same technology (same manufacturers equipment) ensures correct protection within the system. As an example, all Furse Surge Protection equipment has been tested to ensure correct operation when exposed to Lightning current and high voltages. In the event a mixture of equipment has been installed within a building (from various manufacturers), co-ordination cannot be guaranteed, overheating and dangerous sparking may also occur.
