11-05-2004 Eaton relocates UK Residential Business Unit

Published: 11 May 2004 Category: News

Eaton is to move its Residential Business Unit from the existing site in Chadderton, near Oldham to more modern premises nearby:

The move, scheduled to take place by the end of the year, is another step in the integration of Eaton's MEM brand, following the acquisition, last year, of the former electrical division of Delta by Eaton Corporation.

Consumer Interface Products includes the extensive MEM range of Memstyle electrical wiring accessories, Memera domestic consumer units and circuit protection devices, and the HA Controls range of lighting management products. A full range of operations will be moved to the new site.

Leading UK supplier but needs modern business environment:

The existing site is in a Grade 2 listed, former Lancashire Cotton Mill. This does not suit the requirements of a modern business environment. The wiring accessories business has occupied the site since the early 1970s when, as Nettle Accessories, it was acquired by the Delta group and the MEM range of metalclad wiring accessories was merged with Nettle moulded accessories. The addition of domestic consumer units and protection devices in the 1980s further strengthened the company's position as a leading UK supplier of high quality electrical equipment for the residential market.

The new premises will have a single level operations area that will also accommodate the laboratory, customer and meeting facilities, as well as a product display area. New communications and office systems, tailored to the company's requirements, will benefit Eaton's customers with better information flow and quicker response times.

"The move to another site in the same locality underlines Eaton's firm commitment to the local area, as well as to continue to promote and invest in the residential side of the business," says Site Director, Dave Torbit.

Strengthening position:

Integration by Eaton of its European operations, including the industrial switchgear and control gear operations of Cutler-Hammer, Holec and MEM is strengthening the company's position in the marketplace, especially on major projects such as airports, hospitals, high-rise offices, retail and leisure developments, and modern residential developments. The Chadderton site is currently involved in the Spinningfields business development in Manchester City Centre and Chelsea Bridge Wharf residential development in London.
