Why is it recommended to fix FP200 every 300mm horizontally?

Published: 16 June 2020 Category: Q&A

Our ECA expert answers a question from a Voltimum user on FP200 cable and best practice surrounding cable support.

Why is it recommended to fix FP200 every 300mm horizontally?

Question:

Why is it recommended to fix FP200 every 300mm horizontally? I know myself that the cable will only support itself 150mm but to stop my engineers quibbling can someone please confirm reasons why ?

Many Thanks

Answer:

Hi there, BS 5839 states:

Methods of cable support should be non-combustible and such that circuit integrity is not reduced below that afforded by the cable used, and should withstand a similar temperature and duration to that of the cable, while maintaining adequate support.

Cable manufacturers will then give guidance as to how best to achieve this.

Hope this helps.
