Q & A of the Day - BS 7671 – twin socket numbers according to Regulation 607?
Question: Can you please confirm - what is the maximum, or industry standard, for the total number of twin socket outlets that can be connected onto a final ring circuit, which will have CPCs connected in compliance with Regulation 607?

Also, what level of earth leakage (in milliamps) can you expect from a standard PC, and a flat screen monitor?

Answer: The number of sockets on a ring is not specified as this will depend on the protective conductor current likely to flow. This is difficult to establish at the construction stage - however, on average, it is normal to restrict this to around 12 work stations, each likely to produce about 1mA 'leakage'. This value would allow some head-room when the circuit is protected by a 30mA RCD, which can be the case.
