Re-CAL was incorporated as a division of the Di-LOG group in 2005 to introduce a customer-focused service and calibration division to support the growing demand for service support from our customers.  The division is headed up by Paul Broad, Re-CAL’s managing director.  Paul joined the Di-LOG Group from Seaward Electronic and with an extensive background in Sales, service and Electronic Engineering, Paul’s knowledge and key attributes have made Re-Cal the hugely successful Service and Calibration business that you see today.

Since Re-CAL’s inception in 2005, we have become one of the largest calibration specialists in the UK operating a national service from the heart of Manchester with free collections and deliveries to all mainland U.K destinations.

Do you have a Calibration Policy in place?

A question that we do get asked often;  “Do I need to get my test instruments calibrated”?

All measuring instruments should be calibrated to ensure that they operate to their optimum performance level. This could vary from 18th Edition testers to P.A.T Testers and Multi-meters to environmental testers. The Interval depends entirely on the use and abuse that the instrument suffers in use. However, to answer the question most manufacturers recommend a re-calibration period of 12 months. In addition to the formal calibration of the instruments, they should also be checked on a regular basis to ensure that they remain within specification. This can be achieved in a number of ways: by cross-referencing to other instruments that the business may own or by testing on a designated circuit in the office or home. There are also now several test instrument manufacturers producing calibration checkboxes, which enable the contractor to check instrument accuracy in the office or in the field. After all most of our instruments are used in arduous environments and do not spend their lives wrapped in cotton wool. They are subjected to rough handling, accidental dropping and in some cases extremes of temperature.

The size of the company and the instruments deployed will dictate the method (s) adopted.  No matter which method is used it is vitally important that records of the results are kept and made available upon request. This enables the contractor to demonstrate to any inspectorate that they have an effective control system in place for test equipment.
