Why professionals choose KNX

More people are investing in acquiring KNX skills. We asked them why.

Why professionals choose KNX

You’ve probably heard about KNX by now: it is the global OPEN communications protocol for smart building technology. That means that whoever designs and installs a system can choose the functionality they want to install and integrate – lighting, heating, security, AV etc  - and then mix and match the devices that meet the specific needs and budget of the project. The big-name manufacturers are all invested in KNX its future is secure and bright, as are the businesses of KNX integrator partners.

Not only does KNX give them the flexibility to customise solutions, it is also futureproof. If there is a  need to go back and replace a component or expand the system, they are guaranteed that new devices will work seamlessly alongside those installed years or even decades ago. A KNX solution is configured using intuitive KNX ETS software. A copy of the file is always left with the building owner, so there’s always a record of what’s been installed to make maintenance and upgrades easier. Furthermore, intelligence in a KNX system is distributed, so a failure of one small component is not going to shut the whole system down. Unhappy customers are few and far between!

To reiterate: KNX is an open system. It leaves you in the driving seat. None of the other big names on the market can claim that.  From a house to a high rise, KNX offers a scalable solution and if you are in the early stage of evolving your business from basic installation to smart integration, it’s the obvious solution.

But don’t just take our word for it:

Jamie Doe of smart-home KNX integrator LCE Home Automation says: “We choose KNX because it gives us the flexibility to give every client a solution that perfectly fits their needs…whatever their lifestyle, design, budget or technical requirements.”

James Tillyard  from Mosaic AV  comments: “KNX is a clear favourite at Mosaic AV, with over 400 manufactures working on the same protocol we know we will always find the right product for the job."

Andy Ellis of Household Automation  turned the question around and wonders why anyone would not choose to specify KNX. “We get called in to troubleshoot a lot of so-called smart installations that are poorly executed simply because of the constraints of a proprietary systems approach. As soon as something goes wrong, it’s not difficult for us to win the business  away from the original installer!”

Ben Lewis of KNX Consultants said: “Futureproofing – my customers’ investment is safe; my reputation is safe. I know that going back to change/expand the system will be relatively straightforward.”

Over at GES Digital, Iain Gordon says “Quite simply , KNX  delivers on every level and is actually usually cheaper than the alternatives.”
