Who is responsible for thermostats in a new build project? Plumbers, heating engineers or electricians?

Our expert answers the question from a Voltimum user regarding new build project responsibilities.

Who is responsible for thermostats in a new build project? Plumbers, heating engineers or electricians?

Question:

We have just completed a large town house project. Within our remit was to wire for the heating system which we did. We then had to get a wiring diagram from the heating contractor to allow us to wire up the system and thermostats. We are now being told that the client is not happy with where the thermostats are placed and the plumber agrees. We wired as per drawings and it appears as if there is a passing of the buck here. This is not the first time this has happened on a site recently.

So my question is who is responsible for the thermostats in a new build project? The plumbers( Heating Engineers) or the electricians?
Personally i would have thought that the heating company would have its own specialist to commission the system!

All feedback is appreciated!

Answer:

Hi there.  This is not really a technical issue, more contractual.  Either could be, but it should be noted in the contract/spec before work commences.

Personally I would put this in the heating camp myself as it forms part of their installation.

Thanks
