Is it time to start your journey? Earlier this summer, Voltimum held its Smart Tech Live seminars in London and York. These events are set up to provide electrotechnical professionals with a snapshot of where the electrical industry is going and the business opportunities that will rise out of the growing influence that smart technology is having on the industry. The content is supposed to be aspirational but we can’t ignore that the industry still has a long way to go before a lot of the concepts discussed are fully integrated into the electrical industry.
Manufacturers are responding to technological developments and delivering solutions that meet the changing demands of an increasingly digitised and environmentally aware world. These advances are exciting but it is vital that, as one end of the industry surges forward, measures are taken to ensure that the other end (chiefly, the electrical contractor) can keep up and reap the benefits.
In this issue of Smart Electrician, we have focused on bridging that gap. We speak to home integration association, CEDIA, about how it is reaching out to the electrical industry and offering the benefits of their brand new smart home technician scheme and education facility to the traditional electrical workforce.
We also take a brief look at how electrical wholesalers are partnering up with manufacturers to provide specialist guidance for their customers who are looking diversify into new technologies.
Most importantly, we also speak to some electrical contractors who have started their journey into smart tech installation. They share their experiences of investing in training, working with clients and delivering systems that provide new levels of convenience and efficiency.
If you are considering going ‘’smart’ hopefully thee pieces will provide you with some ideas on how to get started and what to expect along the way.
Moving away from training, there is also insights into the possibilities to come from smart power distribution, electric energy storage, visible light communication systems and the use of drone technology on-site.
We are always happy to hear from our readers and hear your thoughts on the future of the electrical industry. If you’ve got some thougtts you would like to share get in touch at : [email protected].
