Q & A of the Day – Must the incoming voltage be checked before installing a VO?

This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: Does the incoming voltage to a home need to be checked prior to installing a domestic voltage optimisation (VO) unit?

Answer: It's essential that the incoming voltage to a building is measured prior to an installation.

Some VOs, such as the Marshall-Tufflex's Voltis Home units, are available at two different voltage levels. One is suitable for 230V - 243V and one for 230V - 253V. The units are fitted with specific transformers to suit each voltage range.

So, if the lower voltage version is used where the higher voltage version should be specified, the unit will be operating above its design parameters. This will result in the transformer vibrating and the unit not performing as expected.
