Training Course in Emergency Lighting

Published: 20 October 2009 Category: News

SELECT are delighted to announce the introduction of a new training course in emergency lighting.

This course has been created in response to the many requests from members for training on this subject.    When installing and testing emergency lighting it is essential that correct procedures are followed, as mistakes could potentially be life threatening.

SELECT’s Technical Helpline receives many questions on Emergency Lighting.  These queries are often caused by the wide range of conflicting guidance that is available in this area of work.   Guidance on emergency lighting comes predominantly from BS5266-1: 2005.  There is also a raft of legislation and guidance which contribute towards good practice in this area.  These include health and safety regulations, Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, The Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004, BS 7671: 2008 and Scottish Government Sector Specific Guidance, which collectively make this topic confusing at times for contractors.

This one-day course will help clarify the requirements and clarify other questions on Emergency Lighting design and installation.  This training is recommended for electrical installation practitioners and others responsible for ensuring that emergency lighting systems are designed, installed and commissioned in accordance with current requirements.

AIM: At the end of this course candidates will have a knowledge & understanding of BS 5266-1:2005 and other associated standards to enable these systems to be correctly installed and commissioned.
