29-May-03 - Simmtronic has designed and engineered the highly flexible lighting control system at Mid City Place - a 300,000 ft2 office development at High Holborn, close to the City of London:
Because of the logistical difficulties in this busy location, the project involved operating a 'just-in-time' delivery system for materials and a tight commissioning programme - challenges that Simmtronic met successfully, completing the initial installation and all subsequent customised fit-outs to schedule.
The developer, Stanhope, required a Cat A lighting control system that was simple to install, yet with the flexibility to accommodate fast track customisation to meet the precise requirement of each new tenant. It commissioned Simmtronic to design and engineer the system, using the company's advanced SPECS 3 technology.
Eliminating data cabling:
The initial installation featured track feeding control modules, with mainsborne signalling eliminating the need for data cabling. In anticipation of the subsequent fit-outs, some floors were equipped with presence detectors whilst others have multi-gang switching at doorways to operate groups of lights. The Company was also responsible for providing the lighting controls in the famous Matsuri Restaurant on the ground floor.
The flexibility of the system design has been a complete success, enabling the lighting controls to be tailored for each new tenant in a fast fit-out prior to occupation. Among the features provided, as required, were presence detector control, corridor linking, local switch control in cellular spaces, scene setting with custom switch plates and AV interfaces. Simmtronic is currently fitting-out the last two floors - one of which is for Mott Green & Wall, the cost consultants on the Mid City Place development.
