Q & A of the Day - What are the CPC requirements in an SWA circuit?
Question: What are the requirements regarding a separate circuit protective conductor (CPC) when the applicable circuit is SWA?

If a separate CPC is run for the circuit, should this be binded to the SWA as per Regulation 543.6.1?

Also, should we class SWA as a ferromagnetic enclosure? If so, how do we apply Regulation 521.5.2 when running a separate CPC?

Answer: In this instance, as you are using the armour plus a separate conductor as the CPC, as long as they are in close proximity it would not necessary to bind them together.

Where the SWA is terminated at a metal enclosure, the separate CPC could be connected to the earth tag (e.g. via a crimped terminal) at the SWA gland.
