Alex asks a question concerning a data centre’s heat loading and its equivalence to the electrical loading. It is answered by SELECT (Theme - Power):
Question: A data centre is specified with 200,000 BTU heat loading, which is equivalent to 50kW (based on btu per hr/ 3.41= watt).
The question is - can we use this 50kW as the electrical load, so as to calculate the overall electrical loading of the facility?
Answer: The 200,000 Btu's specified is for the heating/ACU loading of the building and does not relate to its electrical loading. The electrical loading will be based on the rating of all of the electrical equipment in use, bearing in mind that diversity will have to be taken into account.
