Q & A of the Day - Does this machine outdoors need MCB AND RCD protection?
Question: I have to install a three-phase, 415V machine outdoors. Can I just protect the circuit using MCBs, or do I need to put in RCD protection? The machine will be permanently wired in a fixed position.

Answer: Generally, if the equipment is fixed, then there will be no requirement to have additional protection by means of an RCD. If the equipment used outdoors is mobile and its current rating does not exceed 32A, then additional RCD protection should be used.
