As technology advances and the trend for must-have gadgets increases, the end users need to be able to connect such devices within the home is becoming ever more apparent. Here David Richards, Category Manager at Schneider Electric discusses.

Schneider Electroc launches Powerline ethernet socket

Today’s lifestyle means families have so many internet enabled devices; from Smart TVs, PCs, set-top boxes, game consoles to smartphones and tablets. In fact, internet access throughout the home is becoming a necessity.  In 2011, 19 million households in Great Britain had an internet connection and it is predicted that will have risen to 21 million households in 2012. In fact, since 2006, there has been a growth in internet access of 23%.  When you consider the growing number of multiple internet enabled products and more and more people working from home, the need for high speed and reliable connections has never been greater.

For Schneider Electric, the solution comes in the form of a high speed and reliable network solution called Powerline. For those homes and businesses looking for an alternative to wireless internet connections, the Powerline solution is capable of delivering High Definition digital entertainment and increased productivity, with no need for unsightly and expensive network wiring. In fact, the system utilises existing mains electricity wiring to send and receive the data all via the Ethernet enabled socket. Featuring four network ports and a managed Ethernet switch the Powerline solution is both cost-effective and easy to install.

The idea is simple.  Installing two or more Power Ethernet sockets instantly creates a high speed, secure Ethernet network without the cost and disruption of installing additional cabling or unsightly plug-in adapters. The Powerline sockets incorporate the Atheros INT6400 Powerline chipset to create a high speed secure network by utilising the existing mains cables available throughout any building.

Its unique design incorporates all of the electronics inside the wall socket, eliminating the messy cables running from web router, to adapter, to power socket and then on to the device. The integrated mains filter also improves data transmission speeds and eliminates interference commonly associated with Wi-Fi networks, especially in densely populated areas.

And for those looking to make energy savings, the Powerline units automatically shift into power save mode for reduced power consumption when not in use, saving the user money too.
