Q & A of the Day - Motor starting currents – France v UK
Question: We have won a contract in France, and I wondered whether anyone knows what the maximum motor size is, in general, for DOL starting. We would generally have an assisted start motor over 7.5kW in the UK. Do the French have a similar rule?

Answer: There is no restriction in France for DOL motor starters, but I would recommend contacting the electricity supply to check that the supply is appropriate for dealing with the inrush current generated when starting the motor. France is the same as the UK in that any restrictions are placed by the electrical providers.
