Q & A of the Day - Why do the lights dim when the shower is turned on?
Question: A customer tells me that when she turns on the electric shower, the lights in the house dim significantly and stay dim until the shower is turned off. A visual inspection shows nothing out of the ordinary. Can you suggest any possible causes, and how I should start to investigate?

Answer: The following are possible reasons:

  • Low incoming voltage at intake
  • Loose connection/connections
  • The shower may have a very high load rating.
