Question: I have been told that one cannot put a 13A domestic socket directly behind a washing machine. If this is the case, can I put an IP56 un-switched socket behind, fed from a switch fused spur above the worktop?
Answer: The guidance given on how to comply with the Scottish Building Standards is as follows: where sockets are concealed, such as to the rear of built-in appliances, separate switching could be provided in an accessible position.
