Question: Can you please advise what the recommended disconnection time for a 40A cooker point, complete with socket outlet is? Regulation 411.3.2.3 states that it should be 5s. To me, a 5s disconnection time for a socket outlet does not seem correct, but it exceeds the 32A threshold of Regulation 411.3.2.2!
Answer: This is correct. However remember that where the socket outlet is for use by ordinary persons, a 30mA RCD is required as additional protection - this should disconnect during an earth fault within 40ms.
