Question: What are the regulations concerning earthing? For example, how many earth leads can be put onto one stud (note that this will be on industrial machinery such as electric motors and various external devices).
Answer: Earthing, as defined in BS 7671, is the connection of exposed-conductive parts of an installation to the main earthing terminal of that installation.
Regulation 411.3.1.1 requires that a circuit protective conductor (CPC) shall be run and terminated at each point in the wiring and accessory.
Motors and equipment should have suitable means to accommodate this connection.
BS 7671 does not go into such detail as to the number of connections on an earth stud. However, individual product manufacturers can be consulted for guidance on this.
