Q & A of the Day – Should I earth these conduits?
Question: in an electrical installation, the conduits are sleeves for FP cable supplying outside lights for temporary classrooms in a school. The circuit is protected by a 30mA RCBO.

Does one have to earth conduits that are used for mechanical protection? Is there still a requirement to earth these conduits, as there is no electrical connection to the circuit?

Answer: Good earthing and electrical continuity of your system is always recommended to maximise safety and troubleshoot any EMC effects on data cables.

Our recommandation is to earth these conduits. It is always preferable when data cables - such as FP cables - are concerned, to earth the metallic containment and make sure you have a good electrical continuity of your system. This will help get rid of any EMC issues you could potentially have.
