Q & A of the Day – Must I write an EICR for a garage DB supplied from the house CU?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: I'm in the middle of completing a re-wire, and the client requires a garage distribution board feeding one 20A radial circuit for socket outlets and one 6A lighting circuit.

My question is - when completing a domestic test certificate (EICR), do I have to write another for the garage distribution board that is being supplied from a 40A MCB with an 80A RCD mains switch from the main consumer unit of the house?

Answer: An EICR can be provided for the complete installation. However, a separate test results page must be completed for each distribution board, and it must be clearly marked to indicate that the garage board is fed from a sub-main from the house consumer unit.

If you refer to the NICEIC's Inspection, Testing and Certification handbook, it gives guidance on this issue.
