Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This one, about changing a radial circuit to a ring circuit, is answered by the NICEIC:

Question: When changing a radial circuit to a ring circuit, using the same sockets but different cable, can this be covered with a Minor Electrical Installation Works certificate?
Answer: No. The characteristics and design of the entire circuit will have changed - for example, it will need different cable sizes, different protective devices and a different method of current carrying capacity, as well as a different volt drop design.
