Question: Can a normal plate light switch be used in a bathroom if located outside of the zones? The switch in question is approximately 0.8m from the shower enclosure. The property was built in 2002 and, therefore, at the time this switch would have been in Zone 3.
Answer: Yes, the plate switch can be installed outside of the zones in a location containing a bath or shower.
However, the general requirements in Parts 1 to 6 of the Regulations are applicable outside the zones, including Regulation 512.2.1, which requires equipment to be of a design appropriate to the situation in which it is to be used, or its mode of installation must take account of the conditions likely to be encountered.
