Q & A of the Day – Can I fit a four inch kitchen fan instead of a six inch one?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: In a kitchen of area 5.2m2, is it acceptable to install a four inch extract fan instead of a six inch one.

Also, do such fans have to be humidistat operated by regulation?

Finally, where can I find figures for the correct extract volumes etc.?

Answer: You could only use a four inch fan if it was continuously running - this could be something like our own Lo Carbon Centra.

The figures for the extract rates can be found in Building Regulations Approved Document F.
