Q & A of the Day – Calculating volt drop, which BS7671 table column should I use?

Question: When calculating voltage drop on a single-phase 25mm2, three-core (integral CPC) armoured cable, which column in Table 4E4B in BS7671 should be used - column 3 (two-core cable, single-phase AC) or column 4 (three- or four-core cable, three-phase AC)?

Answer: Use column 3 - two-core cable. The CPC is not a current carrying conductor!
