Q & A of the Day – Will this electrical supply to lifts meet the regulations?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: In the electrical installation we are involved with, the two lifts are located close together some 100m from the main switchpanel, and we would like to install one cable to a distribution board near the lifts and feed both lifts from it. Neither lift is a fire fighting lift.

Is it acceptable to supply the two lifts by one cable from the main switchpanel?

Answer: The Wiring Regulations (BS7671:2008) does allow for this installation.

However it is advised that you refer to the British Standards for lift installations to ensure that you do not breach any of the regulations within that standard.
