Stephen Greenaway asks whether, when carrying out a visual inspection and checking of RCDs for a letting agent, a full periodic report should be completed. It is answered by the NICEIC (theme - Regulations & Legislation):
Question: An electrician is carrying out what amounts to a visual inspection and checking operation of RCDs for a letting agent prior to let.
Is this adequate, or should a full periodic report be completed?
Answer: If the installation is not maintained on a regular basis, and no indication of electrical test results are available, it would be wise to ensure that a periodic inspection report is sought to confirm that the electrical installation is indeed safe for its continued use.
It might also possibly be brought up to current standards to ensure that the electrical safety is continuous.
