The personnel team led NG Bailey's efforts as it achieved a clean sweep of passes. Regional personnel manager Martin Kay had considerable experience of implementing IiP accreditation schemes from his previous employment so he became the company's champion for the process.

Commented Kay: "This company has invested considerable sums in its people over the years with the number of apprentices it has on the books and the other management development areas that it runs. Perhaps the most surprising thing was that we did not have this official accreditation.

"It is a big plus point when you are going out to sell the benefits of NG Bailey and an instantly recognisable qualification that sums up the attitude of the company. Anyone who has the ambition and the ability to succeed will receive every assistance in realising their goal.

"Gaining the accreditation is just the start, of course," he added. "To retain it, we will demonstrate that we are continuing to invest in improving the range of skills of our people to help them meet the challenges of a changing workplace.

"That is really the next challenge. IiP is as relevant to the newly-qualified apprentice wanting to know how far he or she can progress in their career as it is to the person with 30 years under their belt, looking to map out a career path for the next 15 years or so."

Another key IiP team member was Joanne Bamber. She said: "Achieving this standard, considering that we were coming from a standing start, is a great achievement," she said. "Now we have to build on this and ensure that the actions that result speak far louder than the words."
