Calling all electricians: Electrical Safety in the Workplace

Safe isolation is a vital task which needs to be performed whenever working on an electrical installation.

It ensures both the safety of those working on the installation, and other tradespeople or members of the public who might be on the premises. It is important that the person who performs the isolation is trained, qualified, and up to date on the procedures necessary to perform this task. Appropriate equipment is also essential, both testing kit and lock off devices.

Proving dead effectively and safely is vital when it comes to safe isolation and the safeguarding of people and assets. By introducing a robust safe isolation procedure, compliance with the latest standards is assured, helping to reduce the number of electricity-related injuries and fatalities within the workplace, whilst also avoiding potential significant financial penalties and consequential losses.

Martindale has long been an active campaigner for electrical safety in the workplace, introducing ALIVE – its memorable five fail-safe steps to safe isolation – and, more recently, its STOP. No Check. No Contact. campaign to raise awareness of the importance of conducting a live metal check before testing.
