Managing energy with Schneider Electric

Visitors on Schneider Electric’s stand chatted to experts about solutions to their control, distribution and energy management needs – which are becoming crucially important.

Schneider Electric – which includes market leading brands Merlin Gerin, Telemecanique, Square D, GET, Mita, Sarel, Himel, Thorsman, Tower and TAC - is a global specialist in energy management solutions. The company aims to help individuals and organisations make the most of their energy use. Schneider Electric therefore provides integrated solutions for utilities and infrastructure, industrial and machines manufacturers, non-residential buildings, as well as data centres and networks.

The company’s portfolios also cover the residential sector, and the firm’s ranges – many of which were on display at the Electric Event - are highly compatible for integrated solutions.

These included smart switchboards. Switchboards are significant sources of data that can be locally displayed and/or sent via communication networks, grouping most of the electrical protection, command and metering components. Visitors to the company’s stand could see ‘Smart Panel’ for such asset and energy management made easy.

Also on display were the new ‘Easy 9’ BS 7671: 2008 Amendment 3 compliant metal consumer units, as well as the Easy9 and Resi9 circuit breaker ranges.

Schneider Electric also provided four free CPD courses at the Electric Event, on selecting the most suitable surge protection devices, reviewing energy usage within commercial and industrial buildings and the technologies that can enable energy and asset management information to be collated from standard installations through the use of ‘smart’ products, plus a look at trends in the lighting control market, the effects of the latest amendments to Part L, and how these affect lighting control. The fourth seminar introduced LV power factor and harmonics, their generators and effects, and looked at applications and corrective solutions.
