From LightwaveRF via partner Megaman come ranges of innovative products that help save lots of energy – and money – and so help provide greater sustainability in buildings:
LightwaveRF is a range of intelligent dimmers, radiator valves, sockets and sensors. While they look and work just like ordinary dimmers, valves or sockets, they can change the way in which domestic users control their heating, lighting and power.
Indeed, says Megaman, LightwaveRF means that a smarter home is now within everyone's reach. This is because automated hard-wired lighting and heating often costs thousands of pounds and usually involves major wiring and renovation work. This is not the case when using wireless LightwaveRF products and systems.
How it works…
The system works by giving access to the home from any location globally where there is access to the web. This can even be done from a smartphone app, giving users instant control from virtually anywhere – should they want or need it.
The Lightwave Link connects to a home’s broadband Wi-Fi router and syncs to any LightwaveRF device in the home. This can include dimmers, switches, sockets, heating, alert systems and outdoor lighting.
The Lightwave Link is very simple to setup. It automatically connects to the home broadband and links to every LightwaveRF device in the home. Up to six smartphones or tablet devices can be synced with the Link, so that everyone in the family can take control if required.
The Lightwave Link also saves routines and timers so that a user’s lighting, electrical devices and heating will come on automatically at the time set.
A free installed app on the user's smartphone or tablet gives access to all the preset sequences and moods, to the heating system, and to individual lights or sockets in any room from anywhere in the world.
The signal booster can be used to extend the range of a LightwaveRF device to include a larger area indoors or outdoors if necessary. It can be positioned anywhere as it is waterproof and battery operated.
Here are some of the latest products:
Smart dimmers for LEDs
LightwaveRF has introduced a new, remote control ‘Smart Dimmer’ which offers a solution for the problem of LED lamp dimming, enabling smooth dimming of the latest energy-saving lamps either locally or remotely using a smartphone or tablet.
Distributed in the UK solely by Megaman, these smart dimmers are not only LED compatible, but they also have an intelligent five-level dimming depth option. When the LED lamps are installed, the dimmer can be adapted to a particular lamp’s lowest dimming point, making it a simple and truly compatible solution.
This new device can be retro-fitted with no extra wiring required and controlled over an Internet connection from a smartphone, tablet or from a hand held remote control. LightwaveRF products are easy and convenient to control from the home, office, or indeed anywhere in the world. The LightwaveRF app, (free to download from the App Store and Google Play), also allows users to set ‘timers’ and ‘events’ so that a house can look occupied even when empty.
Because LightwaveRF systems are modular and all devices are fully compatible with each other, the Smart Dimmers will integrate smoothly with other existing devices. They mark, says Megaman, ‘a significant step towards the company’s goal of providing energy-saving solutions at an affordable price’.
Smart PIR sensor saves lighting costs and safer
The new PIR Sensor Switch can help to make energy savings and improve safety for homeowners. This compact motion-detector can remotely operate any other installed LightwaveRF device like a light switch, and a built-in ambient light level detector. This means that it will only trigger other devices at certain times of the day depending on light levels, and it will usually switch on a lamp or hallway light.
Once triggered, it will then turn the light off automatically after a set amount of time, so that lighting need never be left on all night again. Not only will this intelligent switch mean savings on energy bills, it could also serve vulnerable groups such as the elderly or partially sighted by automatically turning on lamps or landing lights at night once movement is detected.
The LightwaveRF PIR Sensor Switch retails at around £32.99 and is available in four different finishes.
Energy savings from smart TRV
A new smart thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) can, for convenience and energy saving, switch individual radiators on or off either locally or remotely from a smartphone or tablet.
When used in conjunction with the LightwaveRF Boiler Switch and Home Thermostat, this valve can also keep individual radiators running at the desired temperature based on preferences set on a smartphone.
This valve, which screws onto the existing TRV body as a direct replacement, is exclusive to the LightwaveRF range and is the key to providing real energy-saving solutions for householders.
The combination of the TRV and accessories - such as the Magnetic Trigger (which detects a window opening and automatically turns down the radiator) - make the possibilities for saving money on heating bills ‘endless’, claims Megaman.
The LightwaveRF app, which is free to download from Google Play and the App Store, also feeds back information about these heating devices, so that home owners are always in control of the status and temperatures of the devices installed in their homes, and also what their power consumption is costing them in real-time.
All Lightwave products come with a two-year warranty.
