Shaun Donaldson from Birmingham named as JTL’s Mechanical Engineering Services Apprentice of the Year in the Midlands
Following a successful apprenticeship with local firm, JS Wright Co LTD, Shaun’s victory was announced at a celebratory event at The Jurys Inn, Hinckley, on Friday 28th of February, where he was presented with a £100 cheque and glass trophy. Shaun, who was recognised by his training officer for his progress both academically and practically, has now been shortlisted to represent the Midlands against three other regional MES winners at JTL’s National Awards, which will take place in London on the 2nd of June.
JTL Plumbing and Heating Training Officer, Paul Walton, said: ‘’Shaun is an extremely committed, conscientious and polite student, and from my first session with him he instantly showed maturity beyond his years. Due to his fantastic interpersonal skills, he’s someone his classmates often go to for help and advice, which has made him very popular amongst his peers and helped him to achieve his L2 NVQ.
‘’Shaun’s employer echoes this and has commented on his empathetic nature and willingness to help. He has been described as indispensable to the business, confidently completing projects on time and to a high standard. Shaun has also been instrumental in raising the profile of apprenticeships within the construction industry, demonstrating that with hard work and dedication, you can develop into a true professional and gain acceptance and recognition at apprenticeship level.’’
Shaun, who currently holds an NVQ L2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating, said: ‘’After a challenging start to my apprenticeship, I am extremely grateful to both my employer and my JTL Training Officer, for sticking with me, and for recognising my commitment for the course with this award. I believe that to be successful in your apprenticeship you must be patient and hardworking, and always be willing to listen and help others - things I’ve really tried hard to achieve throughout. I couldn’t be more excited for the National Awards!’’
The award scheme – which is now in its fifth year – sees each candidate assessed against four key elements which make up the apprenticeship framework – their practical work onsite, theoretical knowledge, key skills and industrial test scores.
