Infinite possibilities under difficult environmental conditions

01-July-03 - The TS 8 top enclosure and Premium-Panel systems by Rittal are now available in stainless steel:

For years now Rittal has been producing a 'parallel range' made of stainless steel alongside housings and enclosures made of steel. The company has now made available its TS 8 top enclosure system and a newer operating housing, called Premium-Panel, in this material. This allows applications even under extreme conditions.

Laser-welded stainless:

The laser-welded stainless steel section is lighter than its predecessor with higher stability. The fully symmetrical design creates more installation space, which in addition can be used better. Moreover, there is an outer and an inner mounting level available on each of the four sides. Even the space between these levels can be exploited optimally for cable routing, for example.

For simple, rapid and cost-effective extension, it is possible to use a standardised rapid assembly, extension and accessory range.

Simple baying:

Baying the TS 8 is especially simple due to the symmetric sections. Even stainless steel enclosures with different depth can be connected back to back, to U, L or T shapes. With bayed enclosures the highlight is that a cover of rust-free steel can be clipped over their upper seal. This provides an almost joint-free roof area.

The lowest enclosure level is enhanced with a new base/plinth concept made of rust-free steel. There are two heights available with 100 and 200 mm. No matter how deep the enclosure is: the front base/plinth component is identical to the rear one. Base/plinth trims of different lengths are mounted between them, which can be dispensed with in the case of bayed enclosures. For stability high load capacity fixing bolts can be tightened into the base/plinth which also aid installation of cable clamping or C rails. If one segment of the multi-part gland plate is replaced by a rust-free cable entry plate and in conjunction with suitable connector grommets this results in a finish at the bottom that corresponds to the protection category of the enclosure.

If mounted according to regulations (depending on the type) TS 8 will achieve a protection category of IP 55 to EN 60529/10.91 for the entire life of the enclosure. Numerous approvals are available.

The Premium Panel:

The Premium Panel operating housing in stainless steel convinces with a highly tight encapsulation which is designed for extreme ambient conditions. The housing and rear wall of the operator and control unit are folded to a U-shape and the opposite connecting surfaces are additionally flanged on the inside. This creates an all-round gap to take up the seal. When screwing-on the rear wall the metal surfaces of housing and rear wall are pressed onto each other precisely and the seal compressed in such a way that optimum encapsulation is guaranteed. With this new type of sealing process the Premium Panel fulfils the high demands of the protection category IP 69 K and reliably prevents the penetration of moisture.

Even the aggressive blast of high-pressure cleaners can do the Premium Panel no harm. As the metal contact areas of the housing and rear wall are seamlessly connected when screwing-on, the internal electronics are efficiently protected from harmful EMC influences. The housing and rear wall are connected as required either from the inside with plastic bungs on the outside or from the outside with hex screws.

In addition, with Premium Panel, external, hard to clean hinges are, in the future, a thing of the past. The internal support holds the rear wall when opened in a folded down position. If required the rear wall support can be simply lifted out for better accessibility.

Two basic types:

The Premium Panel is available in two basic types, as solo housing or as operating unit with additional keyboard housing, of 120 mm and 220 mm depths and provides sufficient space for HMIs with 482.6 mm (19") width and 7 U. If required the cabling from the operating housing to the keyboard housing can be taken through two sealed conduits. The connection for the support arm can be optionally made from above or below.

Premium Panel is, because of its high protection category, ideal for use in hygiene and food areas as well as for application in Ex areas (Eex e or Eex i).

Special dimensions of both wall-mounted enclosures and terminal boxes with the new sealing concept can be manufactured on request.
